Biography

On screen she was rarely the lead, and she has said as much: the parts were supporting, and she adapted to them instead of fighting the billing. What the scenes asked for was range. Anal and double penetration were standard for her, girl-girl scenes went as far as fisting, and bondage work called for a different kind of patience, bound, held, waiting for a cue. The register was athletic and unembarrassed, shot in the flat light of mid-nineties video, and it made her a reliable name on a box cover even when her name was not the one at the top of it.

The second career is the longer one. Ireland moved behind the camera as a producer and director, and in recent years she has worked there more than in front of it, taking the occasional scene when it suits her. She also hosted her own show on Playboy Radio on Sirius, which is a different skill set entirely: talk, timing, a host's ear rather than a performer's.
